How to Biuld a Easy Epick Dragon Out of Lego How to Build a Easy Big Epic Dragon Out of Lego
Build some LEGO® Mini Dragons – instructions below! We've got a couple of fire breathing dragons and then a lizard type dragon. Cute and fierce! After you finish them, build a whole scene with a dragon lair and knights on a quest to seek the treasure – at the risk of their lives!
We used a bunch of gray bricks to create a cave for the dragons' lair. Be sure to fill your lair with treasure that the dragons are guarding!
Fire Breathing Dragon
The first dragon is a classic fire-breathing dragon. We followed instructions from Lego.com – this was one of their monthly mini builds at the LEGO® store. You can find the instructions here: LEGO Mini Dragon. (You can also find building instructions for any set on Lego.com – it's very useful! It helps if you know the set number, but you can also search by key words.)
Our version of the dragon has been modified from the LEGO® one – I changed the wings and tail and added the claws on the feet. Also, I made the head four studs long instead of 3 because I thought it made the eyes look like they were in a better position.
Here are a couple photos that will hopefully allow you to see the changes.
Lizard Dragon
This dragon was mostly created by Owen (age 7) with a few modifications by me. I thought the way he built the legs was very clever! If you need more joint pieces, I recommend ordering from Brick Link.
Step 1: Start the body with a 2 x 4 plate, two 2 x 2 inverted slopes, and a 2 x 2 brick.
Step 2: Add five 1 x 2 dark gray plates with a ball on the side and a 1 x 2 lime green plate.
Step 3: Add two more 1 x 2 plates with a ball on the side – these will hold the wings. Add two more 1 x 2 lime green plates.
Step 4: Place a 2 x 4 lime green plate on top. Then add a 1 x 2 plate with a ball and a 1 x 2 lime green tile on top of that. Place a 1 x 2 slope on the other end. Add two 1 x 2 plates with one stud on top.
Step 5: Attach the legs. Each leg is a 2 x 3 wedge plate and a 1 x 2 plate with a socket on the end.
Step 6: Attach 1 x 1 slopes (30 degree) to the back to be spikes.
Step 7: Start building the head as shown. Place a 1 x 2 plate with a socket on the side, a 1 x 2 lime green plate, and four 1 x 1 white round plates on top of a 2 x 4 lime green plate.
Step 8: Build the eyes. Attach a light cover with internal bar (the blue thing) to each 1 x 1 white plate with a clip light. Place a 1 x 1 lime green round plate in front of each eye.
Step 9: Attach the 1 x 4 double curved slope bricks to the head. Then attach the head to the body.
Step 10: Gather the bricks shown to build the tail.
Step 11: Assemble the tail.
Step 12: Build the wings! If you don't have the bricks shown, adapt the design with the pieces you have.
Here's an underside view of the wings. Snap the wings onto the remaining gray plates with a ball on the side.
Green Dragon
Gresham designed this one! The design of the body is similar to the first dragon. This one breathes fire out of his nose.
Looks like the fire breathing dragon just took out one of the knights!
Have fun building! And be sure to check out our LEGO® book – it's full of LEGO® projects to build, and there are two larger and more epic dragons in the book.
The book is called Awesome LEGO Creations with Bricks You Already Have. Click the title to find it on Amazon. It's also available at Barnes & Noble (stores and online) and at Walmart.com.
